New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra

About the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra

Since 2001, the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra (RJO) has been one of the most important projects in Plomp’s career. From the moment he was brought into the orchestra by Louk Boudesteijn and Rob van de Wouw, he has been a member of the artistic committee and thus responsible for the direction of the orchestra and the developing, and execution of the programs.

The RJO started as a traditional big band, with Plomp as conductor/arranger, but after the restart in 2010, the orchestra continued in a smaller line-up as Nieuw Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra (NRJO) with Johan as bass player and without a conductor. In the twenty years of its existence, the orchestra has experienced many musical highlights and several CDs have been made, each of which featured music by, amongst many others, Johan. Projects with poet Derek Otte, guitarist Anton Goudsmit, DJ Mark de Clive Lowe, DJ Kypski, cellist Ernst Reijsiger, to mention a few, have resulted in beautiful concerts and recordings.
